Global Ministries & Child Sponsorship

For over 40 years, the United Church Board for World Ministries has been committed to children at risk through its Child Sponsorship Program. By providing a practical way to “extend a helping hand”, this ministry helps to safeguard the future of children around the world. This program provides assistance to nearly 1800 children and elders in Africa, the Middle East, Asia, Europe and the Caribbean.

Sponsors, like our church, help provide adequate food, clothing, shelter and health care. School fees are also provided. Administrative expenses are nominal so almost all of our donation goes to the program.

Since early 2000, we have been the sponsor for two children, a boy and a girl. The boy, Bashar Jamal Khaled , was born 4/10/95 and just turned 10. He lives in Jerusalem where he goes to school learning both the Christian and Muslim faith. The girl, Usharani Ravichandran, will be 10 in August. She lives in India. We recently received a letter from Usha that was published in the church bulletin.

We are sponsoring these children through high school (or what we call high school). Our church’s yearly donation is $980.00 for the two children. That amount is split between the Missions Board and the Children’s Education Board. The CE raises that money through our Sunday School donations during the months of June, July and August. Maybe your child can do an extra chore around the house and get a reward (quarter?) to put in their piggy banks. Whatever works for you and your family. Thank you for your continued support.
